An ambitious curriculum is accessible to all ensuring all are encouraged to hold roles and responsibility within society, to be a good citizen.
Leadership strands develop citizenship modelling principles of good leadership at all levels of the College based (if not explicitly) on Nolan principles. Students work through 3 stages of leadership awards (Bronze, Silver, Gold) demonstrating incremental levels of responsibility and leadership skills supervised by specialist staff in each strand working to common goals. These are promoted and celebrated in end of term assemblies.
Both in subjects and in tutor time students are encouraged to debate and develop oracy to consider the views of others and weight of evidence.
Within PHSE specific references to community, crime, politics are overtly taught.
College responses to local, national and global events provide safe spaces for students to explore and explore their views as national and global citizens: e.g. Manchester bombings, Paris attacks, Black Lives Matter, Sarah Everard and EveryonesInvited. These often involve students voice and student leadership.
Rule of Law: Behaviour policies, assemblies, Police engagement
Individual Liberty: oracy and articulation of different views, respect and consideration through discussion is encouraged based on informed understanding.
Mutual Tolerance and Respect: The Heathfield Habits and Values prioritise Integrity, Honesty, Compassion and Consideration. The Tutor time programme and cultural calendar build understanding that reduces ignorance and misunderstanding
