A group of Y8 students attended the first of 3 workshops on Thursday 27th as part of an extended oracy focused project in collaboration with the organisation TEDx.
Students were given an insightful presentation on who TEDx are, their overall ethos and what their history is as an organisation. Students were also provided with the five ingredients to a successful TEDx speech, which will allow them to start developing their own.
Students will be using this information alongside future workshops to create, rehearse and then perform their speech at the Trinity Theatre next year as part of a TEDx event.
Students were very positive about the experience! “I really enjoyed this trip as it was very interesting to listen to their tips to a great talk. I found this helpful because I was really struggling with my audience connection and delivery and this boosted my confidence.”
The college understands the importance of oracy alongside literacy and reading to support students to access the wider world of learning and to unlock their creativity and confidence. Performing public speaking is a challenge for many but once mastered can add huge value to many aspects of life and career prospects. These students embraced the opportunity and it is clear the staff who worked hard to enable them to have this opportunity are very proud of them.
