{"id":3043028,"date":"2026-07-02T12:16:47","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T12:16:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.heathfieldcc.co.uk\/?page_id=3043028"},"modified":"2026-07-02T13:33:18","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T13:33:18","slug":"key-stage-3","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.heathfieldcc.co.uk\/?page_id=3043028","title":{"rendered":"Key Stage 3"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A strong Key Stage 3 curriculum and experience is vital to build on the knowledge and learning from Key Stage 2 and to provide a strong foundation that ensures students are able to succeed at Key Stage 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current model reflects regular annual review against our intent, demographic context and the principles we have established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Key Stage 3 curriculum allows all subjects, including Philosophy and Religion, PSHEe, Arts and Technologies to continue to be taught discretely. The national curriculum is covered in full.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CEIAG is full and personalised enabling individual needs for the full range of our students to be met when making their choices for KS4.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaboration with our feeder primary schools ensures progression from Key Stage 2 is smooth and builds experiences of success. Where additional support is required, it is identified early and put in place to underpin a confident start to secondary school. This ranges from overt literacy support to bespoke emotional support throughout and beyond transition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Established pastoral and support structures enhance belonging and ensure students are known and nurtured throughout the key stage. Through Heads of Year, Pastoral Managers and Form Tutor\u2019s every child has a known and trusted adult they can talk to, as well as a range of additional therapeutic support adults as necessary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Throughout the curriculum in Year 7 to Year 9 there is a focus on literacy, numeracy, oracy, as well as <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#165e47\" class=\"has-inline-color\">media and digital<\/mark> literacy which ensure students are able to make progress and access their potential in all subjects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accessibility by design and adaptive teaching through the universal offer ensures all students can be confident in their learning, build on their prior knowledge and receive additional support where it is needed to be able to develop independence over time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enrichment is a core part of the Key Stage 3 entitlement, structured both in the taught curriculum and in the wider enrichment programme. The Heathfield Experience is an integral part of a student\u2019s journey across three years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Responsibilities for students\u2019 wellbeing and health also influence decisions around curriculum modelling at KS3.&nbsp; NHS Kent &amp; Sussex studies repeatedly show that the major health concern of young people in this locality is mental health and anxiety. \u201cMy Health, My School\u201d Surveys from 2021 confirmed wellbeing was decreasing and anxiety was increasing in a post-pandemic context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The College is committed to exploring ways both academic and pastoral of preventing and alleviating the causes and symptoms of mental health issues, building resilience.
