Heathfield Community College has been shortlisted for this year’s Tes Schools Awards, which celebrate the UK’s most inspiring teachers and schools from both the state and independent sectors, following a record-breaking number of nominations.
The awards shine a spotlight on the outstanding work taking place across schools, celebrating the individuals and teams making a meaningful impact on pupils, staff and their wider communities. The shortlist was selected by a panel of expert judges, including experienced school leaders and education specialists. The Inclusion Award focuses on “initiatives, innovation, imagination and efforts to improve outcomes for students with SEND” and particularly evidence of the work of the Learning Support Facility.
This year’s awards feature 23 categories spanning all areas of school life, from leadership and teaching to pupil outcomes and wellbeing. The winners will be announced at a central London ceremony on 19th June, hosted by comedian Katherine Ryan.
Headteacher Caroline Barlow said: “We are incredibly proud to receive this recognition. Inclusion is deeply rooted in the DNA of our college; our students, staff , parents and governors all feel it is a fundamentally important part of who we are. This recognition of the exceptional work and impact of the whole community is both rewarding and further encouragement to continue to work to ensure that all students, no matter what background or disadvantage can attend their local community school and both achieve and thrive”
Roger Enock, Chair of Governors stated: “Governors are proud of the whole community for this recognition. The inclusive ethos of the College has long been recognized as inspiring, this nomination illustrates the all-round team effort and importance the school attaches to disadvantaged students.”
