Heathfield Athletics: Ouse Valley District Champions

The Ouse Valley Athletics District Championships were held on Thursday 5 July at the Withdean Stadium in Brighton. Students from Heathfield Community College in Years 7-10 competed against Beacon, Uckfield, Uplands, Chailey and Lewes Priory. We had 60 competitors across 4 year groups competing in a range of events. Heathfield students dominated the event and won the Year 7,8 and 10 competitions, coming second in the Year 9, comfortably winning the overall event. The students named below won their events and subsequently helped our overall success.

Alongside this, there were a significant number of students who finished 2^nd in their events, but our overall success came through every event being filled with many students doing multiple events to get us points. This underpinned feedback we received from staff  about how proud they were of all of our students.

It was noted that the atmosphere and environment they created for each other was really special. The support, positivity and encouragement they gave to everyone was amazing. All students, no matter what age or gender, thought nothing of running over to give their teammates congratulations after a race, genuinely pleased for each other and supportive of all the youngest ones on the team. It was so clearly evident that their behaviour and confidence was a credit to themselves, the College and their families as a demonstration of our values and ethos.

A special mention is also given to our year 12 A-level PE students (Aleisha Pooley, Sophie Hutchinson, Henry Millington, Millie Froud, Jake Chaplin and Matthew Morgan) who assisted with events throughout the day, and the returning Year 11s who also supported events (Steph Chipps, Rufus Jones, Cat Moody and Sophia McDonald)
