Mathematics

Introduction

The department is staffed by a dedicated team of maths who embrace a range of different teaching approaches including group activities, personalised learning projects and using a range of Digital Technologies.

Teaching & Learning

The Maths department are committed to trialing new ideas in the classroom and work hard to provide engaging activities and lessons for all students. They are committed to ensuring all students have every opportunity to make excellent progress in Mathematics. They are also keen to ensure students enjoy the subject and are confident numerates and problem-solvers.

Homework  – homework is set every lesson and tasks are then reviewed at the start of the following lesson to identify any misconceptions and ensuring students are confident before moving on the next part of the topic. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning and progress and the use of the Hegartymaths website and TTRockstars is promoted as revision resources.

Facilities

The Maths department are based in a suite of rooms off the central College corridor. All classrooms are fitted with Interactive Whiteboards.

Enrichment

We offer a range of opportunities for students to be involved in Mathematics outside of the classroom including becoming a Numeracy Ambassador, UKMT competitions, celebrating Pi Day and lunchtime clubs.
